If you love Worldle for its silhouettes, Halfway gives you a different way to look at them. It is a game about one straight cut. A paper shape lies on a cutting mat, and you drag a line across it to split it exactly in half, or to cut off precisely a third, a quarter or a tenth. Some of the shapes are real outlines of countries and US states, Italy and Texas among them.
Once you cut, each piece shows its share of the area, and the closer the small piece is to the target, the more points it earns, up to 1,000. Lopsided shapes fool the eye: the halfway line sits nearer the bulky end than you expect, which is the same kind of misjudgement that makes a large country look smaller on a map.
The default run is five quick cuts; Endless keeps going until three cuts are way off. It is not daily, so you can play any time. Free on Gamefinity.
How to play Halfway
- Read what the round wants: a half, a third, a quarter or a tenth.
- Press anywhere and drag a straight line across the shape.
- Let go to cut; each piece shows its share of the area.
- The closer the small piece is to the target, the more points you score.
- Play five cuts, or go Endless until three cuts miss by too much.
Halfway tips
- Any direction works. Choose the one you can judge best, often across the short side.
- Move toward the heavy end. On a lopsided outline the true half line sits closer to the bulk.
- Count every piece. Islands count and holes do not, so Sicily belongs with Italy.
- For small fractions, cut a sliver off whichever side is easiest to judge.
Halfway questions
Does Halfway use real country shapes?
Some of its 755 shapes are real outlines of countries and US states; others are everyday objects and abstract forms.
How is a cut scored?
By how close the small piece is to the target share: an exact split scores 1,000, and a cut 10% off or more scores nothing.
How long does it take?
The five-cut run takes about half a minute; Endless lasts until your third poor cut.
